Minnesota Building Inspector Dead from Mesothelioma a Month after Diagnosis

Russell “Russ” Wahl was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, on February 17, 2011. Just over one month after diagnosis, he died on March 25. He was 82 years old. Wahl worked as a building official and inspector in the Mendota Heights of West St. Paul for many decades.

The overwhelming majority of mesothelioma victims are exposed to asbestos on the job. Mesothelioma takes decades to develop into tumors that grow on the lining of the lungs or abdomen. Wahl may have been exposed during his early career in the construction business.
