KSAT 12 reported Houston Police Department officers were involved in a crash of their own as they investigated an unrelated, fatal motorcycle accident.

First responders arrived at the scene of the crash around 2:30 a.m. on the Gulf Freeway near El Dorado. Police said the motorcycle crash involved one rider traveling in excess of 100 miles an hour when the driver ran into the back of a car.
As investigators were processing the motorcycle crash, a Kia Soul crashed into the officers’ vehicles, spinning the cars upon impact. A police spokesperson said the officers were inside the vehicles when they were struck. Paramedics transported the officers to a nearby hospital out of precaution, but crews at the scene said they were both walking and talking and appeared to be ok.
Officers arrested the Kia Soul driver, who was treated for minor injuries. Police said he appeared to be intoxicated.
Police believe weather may have played a role in the motorcycle crash, but they are still investigating the incident.
